Clear Sealer After Refinishing or Dyeing Leather or Vinyl
Nice job, thanks for the video.
Beautiful. Couch repair, too.
This is absolutely no joke. I just did everything they said. Bought the different kits on their website. This stuff is phenomenal. I wish I could post my before and after. It will blow you away.
Wonderful to hear, and thanks for taking the time to share the good word! Yep, it's not really any different than wood repair. It's just a more flexible fiber. Cheers!
I bought these products and this compound dries totally clear and remains tacky. I haven’t sanded or dyed it yet… I’m hoping that perhaps sanding it will take away the tackiness 🤷♀️ So far I’m disappointed and these products were expensive. Is this compound supposed to dry totally clear and remain tacky or did I get a bad batch?
Depending how deep the void was and how many layers of filler you have in there, it may look hazy and whitish and not totally clear. There are a couple of explanations for the tackiness. A coat of color should correct it. See here: rubnrestore.com/how-to/leather-filler-troubleshooting/#filler-tacky This and other troubleshooting topics can be found by searching the FAQs or How To Library.
I cut out the leather to make smooth edges on the tear, like the video and glued in a patch underneath with the locktight like she suggested, then applied the 1st layer of compound and put the couch in the sunlight. It dried totally clear, but was tacky. I applied a second layer of the compound but used the light bulb and it dried totally clear but is still tacky. The compound is not quite flush so I am about to add one more thin layer of compound and dry it with the lightbulb. I’m surprised that the compound is tacky when dry. I’ll check out that link and update this when I finish sanding and coloring it. I bought colors to match it to my very dark brown/espresso colored couch. I hope this works.
ugly sofa no no non
What does the rest look like? Color variation, texture? How do you condition the leather once it’s sprayed?
I wonder if it would be worth the effort for something more expensive like headphones. That's why I came here. I don't like the idea of throwing away the whole headphones just because of flaking headband padding. Any idea if that could be restored somehow?
FlexSeal Spray is your best bet.
So I guess it's not worth it to try to repair my cracked faux leather headphone headband... I replaced the ear pieces, though.
Saved me what... 3 days and 60 to $80? Thanks.
Thanks!
Excellent job! looks good
If you wouldn't wet the surface but would have cleaned it first; then what would you have used? Also very great getting to see how things held up! Seems like the very important step most others skip.
Always use alcohol. It evaporates quickly and is needed to remove body oil, conditioners, and other residues that soap and water won't touch.
never trust a women who comes bearing a knife anywhere near your sofa
It would cost less to get a new chair compared to the cost of materials used to fix, the time and efforts. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm just annoyed with it peeling and getting tracked all throughout the apartment. Not only my chair making a mess but my headset is made of the same shit and I have that material ring around my ears sometimes. Its almost as annoying as glitter.
Another video said faux leather lasts 15 to 20 years Im confused
Which video?
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Yes, it does look better. Thanks for tip re glue, as I wondered what type of glue would be best. I was expecting that you would stitch across the patch also in order to hold the repair. That would show all the more, which is disappointing, but how well does the glue alone hold, and does it prevent the hole from spreading as the cushion is used?
The subpatch restores structural integrity to the repair and keeps the hole from widening. This type of glue is tough as nails. It's used to apply emblems to vehicles.
And how did this hold up to the sun
Just fine. Pigmentation (as opposed to a clear conditioner) adds UV protection.
Very helpful, many thanks!!
I love how you used a seemingly untraditional leather fixing product like the spray Flex Seal. Gets myself thinking out of the box for creative solutions to a crappy substrate of the faux leather
sell that pocket knife, buy leather chair. thanks for trying!
What was this video for if it doesn’t say what to use
It's in the description. It's our name brand water-based paint called Rub 'n Restore. Cars usually need a Custom Color. rubnrestore.com/leather-restoration-products/custom-vinyl-leather-dye/
Thanks for that test knowledge
Beautiful
Thank you 🙏 Yes the real deal is always best & more beautiful I am opting to fix my handbags & the straps but think i will use textile Will see if i can use shoe conditioner or shoe cream colour 🤔
I’m about to throw mine out then I saw your video is the universe telling me something 😅what kind of paint are you using please
We're using our own water-based leather paint, Rub 'n Restore: rubnrestore.com/leather-restoration-products/
Amazing. Never saw this done before.
no. don't peel off large pieces, it can glue back down with the right leather dye that acts like a glue.
Are you able to recommend one and show its longevity after several months?
I’m calling ‘BS’ on this product- surely it can’t stay looking as good as in the video for long? Do you not need to touch it up all the time?
See for yourself. Real reviews here: rubnrestore.com/reviews-and-testimonials/ Now there are some caveats (it wears better on absorbent leather; faux leather repels it and is discouraged), and best practices should be followed. More info here: rubnrestore.com/how-to/change-color-leather-vinyl/
@@RubnRestore I’d like to see lots of before and afters but the afters would need to show actual normal day use of the item that was coloured. Can see this stuff just peeling and causing the whole lot to peel after a pet put their paw on it.
@@epiphgd4302 Our products do not peel or flake like urethane or polyurethane coatings. They may just wear thin over time. The link given previously has photos of worse-case scenario wear looks like and how to prevent it. Here's the link again: rubnrestore.com/how-to/change-color-leather-vinyl/
My name is grandmarobot my question is what about trying to peeling from pocketbook and handles
Sure, but then you're left with the fabric substrate. I wouldn't apply filler to something as high-use as pocketbook and handles. I'd only stain or paint it.
Thank you for this, your patience is admirable. In the end, you are right, just buy yourself genuine leather items. I was thinking of repairing this very nice storage box I have that came with faux leather but now I see it would be better to buy leather and have it redone or re-wrapped in actual leather. Will look better, be faster and last way longer.
I just wanted to say your voice is so soothing to listen to. This was super informative but also ASMR 😊
Hello , good job on fixing this couch.is this couch color the camel light tan , I'm thinking I have the same color couch , so just trying to get the right repair kit ????? thanks so much !!!!!!!
Screens are deceiving. This is actually our Walnut brown color, many shades darker than a Tan. If you email a picture of your entire couch taken in natural light along with your mailing address to info@rubnrestore.com, we can suggest a color and mail you free swatches.
I like your voice, it's very attractive ☺️
